Colorado: SENATE BILL 12 – 02 CIVIL UNIONS

SENATE BILL 12 – 02 CIVIL UNIONS

Senate Bill 02 would establish civil unions in Colorado. The bill was introduced on the first day of session.

The key flaw with civil union legislation is that it creates an alternative parallel structure to marriage.

Civil union legislation contradicts the will of the people of Colorado, who in 2006 chose to reject Referendum I, the equivalent of civil unions and supported Amendment 43 which enshrined in our constitution the definition of marriage as being between one man and one woman.

Traditional marriage is the cornerstone of our society that exists for the benefit of children and the protection of women.

SB 002 Civil Unions, will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, May 3rd in the Old Supreme Court Chambers located on the Second floor of the State Capitol Building at 1:30 p.m.

ACTION: PLEASE CALL THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE AND YOUR STATE REPRESENTATIVE AND ASK THEM TO VOTE NO ON SENATE BILL 12 – 002.

WHEN: IMMEDIATELY

Thank you.

Colorado: SENATE BILL 12 -15 (SB 15) CREATING OPTIONAL CATEGORY OF HIGHER EDUCATION TUITION

***ACTION ALERT***

SENATE BILL 12 -15 (SB 15) CREATING OPTIONAL CATEGORY OF HIGHER EDUCATION TUITION

The Colorado Catholic Conference supports Colorado ASSET (SB 15) because educating all of students in Colorado isn’t just the right thing to do it’s the smart thing to do.

Colorado ASSET (SB 15) will not cost taxpayers a dime all while bringing additional revenue into our financially-strapped institutions of higher education. ASSET (SB 15) will allow undocumented students, who attended at least three years of high school in Colorado, graduate and get admitted to college to pay a new classification of tuition called standard-rate tuition. This rate of tuition will cost substantially more than in-state tuition but less than out-of-state tuition. Another change to the bill this year is colleges and universities will be able to opt-out of creating this class of tuition if they so choose.

You can learn more about Colorado ASSET at www.ColoradoASSET.com
You can also help advocate for the passage of the bill by visiting their website and looking at the get involved tab.

RALLY: There will be a rally to SUPPORT SB 15 on the west steps of the State Capitol at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, April 23, 2012.

HEARING: SB 15 will be heard in the House Education Committee, Monday, April 23, 2012 in the Old Supreme Court Room at 1:30 p.m.

ACTION: PLEASE CONTACT THE MEMBERS OF THE HOUSE EDUCATION COMMITTEE AND ASK THEM TO SUPPORT SB 15.
